Edgbarrow School is located in the village of Crowthorne, Berkshire. We are a truly comprehensive school and have been judged to be ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED. We are a larger than average secondary school with approximately 1449 students on role, including 350 students in our Sixth Form.
We are very fortunate to have a stable, professional and highly committed group of teachers and support staff who work together to ensure that each student receives the best educational experience. Visitors, including parents, contractors and outside agencies frequently comment on the positive atmosphere that pervades the school, from a warm welcome at our reception that continues to be felt around the site. We are very proud of our students’ attitude towards their school, learning and the way they behave. Our students are excellent ambassadors for our school and we often receive compliments regarding the manner in which they conduct themselves.
Our students make outstanding progress and our results show a continued trend of improvement over the past five years. We attribute the success to be a number of factors, including:
- High-quality teaching
- Students’ exemplary attitudes to learning
- Ensuring that the curriculum meets the needs of all individual students
- Consistent and regular monitoring and tracking of individual students’ performance
- Excellent intervention, support and preparation for examinations
- High-quality leadership from the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Department and Heads of Year
The school recognises the importance of extra-curricular activities across the school. We believe it is equally important for our new Year 7s as part of their transition, as it is for our Sixth Formers who are busy preparing for their final exams. Students can participate in a variety of activities including sports clubs and teams, creative and performing arts and after-school clubs in a range of departmental areas. We also offer a well-established Duke of Edinburgh Award; our Year 9 students achieve their Bronze award with our Sixth Formers working towards their Gold.
We take great pride in our school site and work hard to provide the very best facilities for students and staff to enjoy. There have been a number of major projects over the past few years and in recent years, we have built a fantastic Sixth Form Centre and have extended our science block. On a termly basis parents and students will help us on a Painting and Gardening Day, to refresh the classrooms, corridors and grounds of the school. This saves the school thousands of pounds and we are very grateful for the support we receive.
We look forwarding to meeting and hopefully working with you in the future.
'There are many strengths to the school, encompassing huge commitment and hard work by staff led by the senior leadership team.' (Investors in People, Nov 2012)
