Year 9 History Projects

Last term, Year 9 learnt about the First World War, focusing in particular on the causes of war, life in the trenches on the Western Front and the Battle of the Somme. In order to broaden their understanding of the wider war and learn about the experiences of soldiers elsewhere in the British Empire and the world, for their homework projects students researched a different front during the First World War. Students researched various different areas, including:
• Australia, New Zealand and conflict in Gallipoli
• The Italian Front
• Soldiers from the West Indies, including fighting in Sierra Leone and the Cameroons
• Experiences in the Indian Army, including those of Sepoy Khudadad Khan
• Conflict in West Africa including Togoland and the Cameroons
