Sustainability Summit

Edgbarrow Sustainability Champions met with Mr Matthews to confirm the school's commitment to the upcoming Sustainability Summit at
Bracknell and Wokingham College. By signing the contract, Edgbarrow formalises its responsibilities and sustainability goals for the conference. In partnership with the Sustainability and Environmental Education (SEEd), Edgbarrow also looks forward to sharing new sustainability projects with the school community. We are incredibly proud of our 10 students who represented Edgbarrow at the recent Sustainability Summit, run in partnership with SEED, Bracknell Forest Council, and Bracknell and Wokingham College in Bracknell.

Our students spent the day collaborating with local experts and young people from across the borough to tackle key environmental issues facing our community. They participated in workshops focused on reducing waste, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting sustainable local transportation. One specific provocation from Mary Templeton, the leader of Bracknell Forest Council, was particularly inspiring to the students and created excellent discussions.
This hands-on experience has equipped them with practical knowledge and skills to drive change right here at Edgbarrow! Expect to see some exciting new sustainability initiatives launching soon, including a push for better recycling and plans to improve our school's green spaces.

Mock COP

On 30th September, Edgbarrow attended a Mock COP event at Wellington College. The event included delegations from local schools, representing 16 countries. Each group gave a one-minute opening statement about their country's stance on climate change. This was followed by an exercise on adaptation and mitigation strategies, countries being held accountable for high carbon emissions, and global solutions.

We had 6 students making up the Brazil delegation, with Faris (Year 13) delivering a strong opening statement, acknowledging Brazil’s shortcomings in climate policy while also drawing attention to the significant progress made by the nation. The team handled questions excellently and made us all very proud, dealing with some challenging topics posed by other countries.

Edgbarrow also took part in the “Wellington Resolution”, where ideas shared by students at the event will be shared globally at the real COP 30 event in Brazil next month.

If your son or daughter is interested in joining these projects, encourage them to attend our sustainability group, which meets every Tuesday after school in H2. By joining, students will actively contribute to improving the school’s environment and gain opportunities to be involved in meaningful sustainability events and initiatives.
