Extreme Weather Update
Timings of School Day – Extreme Hot Weather 23-25th June 2026
The Met Office has issued a warning about high temperatures forecast to peak on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We have completed a risk assessment so that the school can operate safely. As part of this assessment, we ask for your support with the following adjustments:
We will reduce lesson times, remove registration and shorten social time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This will allow us to finish earlier, avoid peak temperatures and reduce the cumulative impact of heat building in classrooms. We will return to a normal timetable on Friday, subject to forecasts.

In the event that your child cannot safely leave school at 1.35pm, please contact your Head of Year, and we’ll make arrangements for them to stay on site.
Hydration and Sun Protection
Please ensure students come to school with water bottles that they should top up throughout the day (extra water stations will be available at break and lunch to support this). Students should also wear a hat and sun protection to support them on their way to and from school and during break/lunch.
The Astro will be closed at lunch, and whilst the field will be open, ball games and physical activities will not be permitted. Additional shade will be provided, and indoor areas will be available. PE lessons will be adjusted to avoid physical exertion and time spent in the sun.
Year 12 Exams
Morning exams will take place in the gym, but will begin at 8.30am. Afternoon exams will start as planned, but will be moved to the small hall and study room where we have air-conditioning.
Uniform
We have already issued adjustments; students should wear summer uniform, but may wear PE shorts if they do not have grey shorts.
Art Exhibition
This event will be postponed; further details to follow.
We want students to enjoy the warm weather, but they must do so safely. The above measures should reduce the worst impact whilst keeping the school safely open.
