Edgbarrow Sponsored 10k Walk - Friday 19th September

We’re excited to share that our much-loved annual Sponsored Walk is returning on Friday 19th September 2025. This whole-school event is always a fantastic opportunity for students and staff to come together, enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Crowthorne Wood, and raise valuable funds for our PTA, who do so much to support the school community.

The walk is approximately 10 kilometres and follows a clearly signposted and marshalled route through the woodland. It’s a wonderful chance for everyone to enjoy some fresh air and exercise while contributing to a great cause.

As you can imagine, organising an event of this scale involves careful planning, so we intend to go ahead as scheduled unless the weather makes it unsafe to do so. In the unlikely event of severe weather, the reserve date for the walk will be Friday 26th September.

On the day of the walk, students are not required to wear school uniform but must wear clothes and footwear suitable for walking and appropriate to the weather conditions. Unfortunately, as part of our Crown Estate licence, we are not permitted to allow parents/carers and family dogs to join us on the walk.

Thanks to the incredible support of our community, the PTA has been able to fund a wide range of projects that make a real difference to students’ day-to-day experiences. In recent years, money raised through events like the sponsored walk has helped to purchase a school minibus, furnish the library, install lockers and bike sheds, upgrade school computers, and provide specialist equipment such as cameras for the Art and Photography department. Most recently, the PTA contributed to the full renovation of the school library—creating a fantastic learning and reading space for our students. This year, we’re aiming to raise funds for additional covered canopy areas around the school site so that students have more outdoor shelter and social spaces.

We hope every student will take part in this exciting event and aim to gain as many sponsors as possible from family and friends over the summer break. While students will be reminded not to ask strangers, we really appreciate your support in helping your child raise sponsorship for this much-loved whole-school event.

A sponsorship form has been emailed to parents (see copy below), if you’d like to get started early—paper copies will also be given to students in September.

Donations can be made in cash or by cheque, but the quickest and easiest way is through our Just Giving page which can be found here: www.justgiving.com/campaign/edgbarrowsponsoredwalk

We would be grateful if you could declare the sum raised through Just Giving on the paper copy of the sponsor form.

We ask that all students return a signed copy of the sponsor form to their form tutor no later than Tuesday 16th September.  We use the form as consent for participation and re-issue the form once the walk is complete – it allows us to make sure everyone has returned safely!

An event of this kind requires a lot of support and we would appreciate assistance from parents/carers. In particular, help is needed to register students in the Main Hall upon their return to school. If you are able to offer any support on Friday 19th September between 12:45-4:00pm, please let us know by emailing secretary@edgbarrowschool.co.uk.

Thank you, as always, for your support with this event – fingers crossed for good weather!

Mr J Andrews, Assistant Headteacher
